the art of procrastination...
Have I mentioned that I am a procrastinator? I am. It's true. And I've gotten good at it. So good in fact that it is now second nature (when I cooked all those great meals last week, ending with the Chicken Dumpling Soup Extravaganza, I didn't even realize I was doing it). You see, I have this looming deadline for the "Enormous Tiny Art Show" and while I patted myself on the back for getting off to a great start with the eight little paintings for the show I then started to stray. First it was the cooking (after all I got a new cookbook, right?) Then I picked up the knitting I had set aside for too long and decided I needed to finish the "Solace" sweater (so I could justify purchasing a new skein of Malabrigo to start Annri's hat). And then while spending way too much time wandering in the blogosphere I came across "The Alabama Stitch Book" and became a little obsessed with tracking down the book and starting the "Bloomers Skirt"....yeah, it's a bit of a problem. To make up for all of the side projects I spent a good deal of time in the studio yesterday morning and I'm heading in there now (although Wednesday's New York Times has the food section...hmmm). Well it's homemade mac and cheese with panko breadcrumbs (which i could make in my sleep) and a simple salad for dinner tonight...so that leaves plenty of time for a bit of lunch and a quick fix of "The Minimalist", right?

for some reason this is funny to me! maybe i'm good at it too. your side projects are all very worthy though :)
thanks for your comments.
This was a great post... I procrastinate because I'm afraid I can't do "it". or I don't know what exactly to do with whatever art I am doing it to! But, the bottom line is the only thing that helps is jumping in.
You would love it here... everyone is a cook except me! We are having pretty yummy dinners...
and... thank you so much for your comments, they mean a lot to me.
belinda- yes, i'm laughing too!
janice-'m all for jumping in...no matter what (that's how i ended up 1/2 way across the country!)
it's all good...

Hi Beth,
From one procrastinator to another you might enjoy this http://www.structuredprocrastination.com/
Are you sure you wrote about yourself? Why? Well you gave a pretty good description of me. This morning while waking up I realized that my list of embroidery projects is growing much faster than the list Done.
So I would say, back to work.
I think procrastination is essential... If we just did the things on our to do lists we would miss out on a lot of happy findings.
Both of my children were created while I was procrastinating... hee hee.
Well, at least you are getting other things done while you're procrastinating... and that is a good thing! Sometimes I freeze and fritter away time with nothing to show for it whilst procrastinating. Maybe it's just a good way of re-focusing or 'recess' for grown-ups before we really hit the work table.
The skirt sounds really cool... I may have to take a peek on the web and find it.
Oh so there's a name for it.
Procrastination.
Here I thought I was a scatter brain!!!
Now I can write it off to procrastination.
On a serious note, I completely relate to this post. Thanks for the reminder to get my butt back on track!
Good luck to you ;)
procrastination is one of my forms of art! tee-hee! i haven't ever thought of you as a procrastinator, funny that. The "fly" girls are great, full of a beautiful message.
