3 x 5
8 x 10
Monday again? How are you? We had a fabulous weekend complete with a massive thunder and lightening storm Friday evening and some much needed rain on Sunday. As you know overcast days with a bit of a chill are my favorite kind of day and are perfect for painting (or curling up with the Times and a glass of red). The 1st piece I'm sharing is another "house" painting similar to "Identity" from last week. These small paintings are a "study" for a group of 9 x 12 paintings I plan to do using this same idea and subject. I planning to do one more 3 x 5 and then start prepping the larger boards this afternoon.
The 2nd painting shown is similar to "Clarity" which was the last painting I completed before my move. I've been thinking a lot lately about questions of beauty, identity, status, self knowledge and self-love. From my new home you can see millions of stars almost every evening and the constellation are easy to spot. Cassiopeia was a queen of unrivaled beauty whose boastful ways ending up leading to the downfall of her entire Kingdom. The constellation that bears her name contains two of the most luminous stars in the galaxy but there is a lesson to be learned from this "W" shaped constellation about humility and grace and the meaning of real beauty. How do you define real beauty?

Visual beauty is all well and good... but I think real beauty = kindness. Kindness and the natural world.
Beauty is living and communicating in gentleness.
I really think it depends on who is seeing the beauty. What is beautiful to one may not be for everyone.
Thanks Beth for your kind words

Really like both of these pieces -- especially the "house head" one. Looking forward to seeing how these will evolve.
Beauty, hmmmmm. So often, I look at a painting or other work of art and I will think it's beautiful. But then, I see something "simple". Something that just IS (a bird, a flower, a color, a stone) and I get a huge thrill.
so good to see you working so much again! (can I presume the "yelling" to be over now?)

(oh drat...I never answered your beauty question....let me ponder that one a bit)
hi Beth, have had this page open for a couple of days now {sorry}. love 'inside my head' ~ completely am like this! and the dark background.
have trouble defining beauty, it seems just something that flicks a switch without words!
hmmm... i think beauty is how something/someone touches a place inside that causes the heart to take pause, maybe a gasp but maybe a flutter. it might be visual, but not always.
such a good question...
