Talking Blocks

                                                       simple pleasures

                                                  occasional graces

My muse has taken to showing up around 4am every morning (since I go to bed around midnight this is really cutting into my shut eye) .   The other night as I lie awake thinking about these striped blocks (at 4 am) I kept envisioning different ways of writing on the top.  I knew that I wanted to create a series of "talking blocks" and I really like the way the oil paints striped the bottom but I was  totally stuck on how best to execute my idea.  Then I remembered a post Bridgette did in which she talked about copying images onto tissue paper....PERFECT!  So of course I had to get out of bed, creep down the creaky old stairs  and re-read the post and give it a try.  It worked!  I love the way these turned out and plan to try a larger version as well.  Maybe once the kids are back in school next week the muse will appear at a more reasonable hour (once I can crank up the music and paint during the day).  But for the next few days I can be found quietly painting in the wee hours....

It's tricky getting painting done with everyone home! Sewing and knitting is not a problem but painting... I need to focus and be 'in the zone'. Hope you can get in a little time to finish the stripes... very cool method. Monday's not far away!!

Beth, thanks for the sources for food love. you are right! I did make Kristin's (do you know her website and blog?, she is Liz's best friend and studio mate). www.kristindeluga.com and smarter than da vinci (via my blog).

anyway, i made kristin's recipe for roasted veggies and g and i were moaning over how good roasted sweet potatoes taste.

THANKS!!! for the inspiration, i like my new resolution. can't change til your attitude does!

These are very cool! I have never painted with encaustics before..you inspire me to try them! I totally understand about getting up at 4 am to work on art...can be a good or bad thing especially when it comes to sleep! I look forward to seeing more of your art.

Hi Meri-
these two paintings are both 3.4"x4" and are on a 1a' thick maple block. Bridgette is all kinds of awesome!
