houses hemmed into homes...

Yesterday I started with a group of houses....solid shelters clustered together to form a neighborhood.  Today these houses were colored with shades of ochre, connected with complex patterns and stitched into safe havens full of emotion, meaning and memory.

And this one is so super lovely!!!! I love the introduction of an object...and i love the theme! Houses somehow always have my vote. I can't resist their charm.

Hi Beth,

I love painting houses too. I like this piece a lot!

Can you grow a winter garden where you live? I thought it was really, really cold???

You and Michelle and Kristin and the internet world inspire me to keep on working!

No winter gardens here..... but if we plant the right seeds or bulbs, cover them with hay, cross our fingers, click our heels and wish for a mild winter we may have green sprouts shooting up in March!
Dana-I hope your comment means you've recovered...
Sandy- I love the fact that you still have this machine!
Sammi-You will love the felted wool (whole new realm of possibility...)
Janice-Houses/Homes are awesome...dependable shelter, constant comfort, a quiet haven...a place to be real...
Thanks Ladies!

It's all been said but I love this one too! I have a thing for old machines.... and the way you've incorporated it with the houses is very unexpected. So nice! Is it a larger one?

This piece is 9x12 but I'm considering creating a larger version (10x20 maybe??). I like the repetition, pattern and connection in this and "the social workers" and hope to explore it a bit more ....

I love this piece!

The idea of homes, and houses, and little boxes is always very inspiring to me.

Awesome!

i love this piece-the composition, the palette, the meaning. For me particularly, the meaning really speaks to me as I find myself in a new environment trying to stitch myself a new home and new community. This piece makes an unknown for me, feel soothing.

lovely.

I know this is a old post but I saw this at Art Basel this weekend and had to buy it! It will soon have a new home in St. Louis, MO! Great work! So glad I found your blog!

DHB,
I am thrilled that this piece found it's special place. I have been saving this painting for something very special and when I received the invitation to the show in Miami it needed to go there...thank you for your kind words and for supporting an emerging artist! I have a few new pieces in the works and hope to be showing them soon.
