Heart Lab Feature!

I want to extend a warm thank you to Marichelle of hearthandmade for featuring my painting in her heart lab series.  If anyone wants a little better understanding of what goes into the creation of an encaustic painting check out this feature. The painting featured  "Treading Under the Moon" was the painting that appeared in my 1st blog entry and is happily residing in san francisco now.I really loved the way this painting came together and I'm honored to have it featured.  Also be sure to check out the archives as she has featured some other really amazing artists (leililaloo)!

That post was so interesting over at Heart Lab! Thanks for posting the links to that article. I never realized there were so many steps... it really is an intricate process. How nice that your husband heleps you build the frame! (I tried to leave a comment over at Heart but couldn't get it to work.)

I too enjoyed the article, very interesting indeed. It is funny how someone mentions something and the next minute you see it everywhere... encaustic painting has been just like that, Maybe it is a sign?

isn't it funny how that happens. the interesting thing about encaustics is that even though there are many layers and steps it is a quick medium to work in. since the wax hardens immediately you have to work quickly. once you have a clear idea of what you want to do you can produce a piece pretty much within an hour or so...however working with heat there are always variables and so you have to adjust to not having full control over the outcome (it's very therapeutic for my type a personality).
