Their Fates Were Sealed (that day at the beach)...

The power of attraction, the whispered message and the autumn surf brought these two together...right where they belong.
I spent last Sunday at the beach and I truly can't wait to go back (this weekend perhaps?).  Since our move west I have been missing Lake Michigan ( it's sugar sand beaches, clear shark free water, non life threatening waves and proximity to my old house ( one block).  But the Autumn Ocean is an amazing thing.  It is full of life and movement and reflects light and shadow in a way that affects the core of your being.  The enormity of the water gives perspective and the sound of the waves brings rhythm which is so often lacking in daily life.  It is a good place to go to think, to draw, and to be with family open to possibility, free of distraction and full of hope for whatever the future has to offer.
Do you have a place that fills you up?

These two 3x5" paintings will be in my shop later today (as a pair of course...).

These two are wonderful!

I don't have a place that fills me up. I am filled up by watching my daughter become a creative, independent person.

I guess a collection of little things might help to fill me up. A falling leaf, seedlings (unless they are weeds), singing birds, etc.

beth, i never go to stone barns (a working non-profit farm) and do not leave feeling renewed and inspired.
a nervous giggle about the "shark-free" waters; the last time I visited my brother, we walked the dog along the water in Tiburon, and sure enough, there were sharks swimming along down in the water next to us. yikes!
the paintings are wonderful-do you type the text yourself, or are they from found letters & such?

kim- thanks!

tara-i think stone barns would renew and inspire me as well...as for the text i use a combination of actual newsprint (new and vintage), found lists and bits of stuff and copies of snippets from old love letters my husband wrote to me many moons ago....

I feel filled up when our little family is all around the table and all find the same moment funny, looking around me then, I feel that things are good. Coming over the crest of our road, on the way home looking west, that view fills me up (do you know the spot?) The threshold of the bedrooms where the kids are soundly asleep, that spot also fills me up. Hah, and my "craft room" when it's tidy...!

The pair is great, their colors are great and I love the bird!

as cheesy as this sounds, the coffee shop...there is a town not too far where we can walk from the coffee shop to the bookstore, to the deli....a pedestrian lifestyle that I have been craving )and what I miss about chicago....

Ahhhh.... what a gorgeous post. I, too, have a love affair with the beach - and especially with Lake Michigan. I love your new pieces. I hope that they sell as a set. They should be a couple. And to all of your commenters... such beautiful 'places' that have been shared. xox
