Back to the beach...

I worked on this painting (the second photo is just a detailed view) until the wee hours last night and couldn't help but wonder how I ended up back at the beach...it is not what i set out to paint but somewhere along the way things took a turn.  Actually I was scanning the paper and came across a fabulous article about senior citizens reenergizing themselves by practicing circus arts (trapeze, high wire, etc...).  One of the 71 year old men commented that it was the most fun you could have with your clothes on!  I knew that the article needed to be a part of something... so a couple appeared on my beach in their suits ( but not in the water).  The stone collectors are alone on the beach arm in arm collecting treasures and watching summer fade away.
My last few paintings have had a little different look about them- a little more layering and a bit less bold.  What do you think?

i love this one beth. I love the way you are painting lately. You are right they are a bit different from before. I defenitly like the layering, i don't know what you meant by bold(my english doesn't reach that far i guess). What is beautiful and still the same from the paintings you've made before is the story you are telling about them.

I love them too, they feel very quiet and calming to me, and I like that you added the article about the seniors... that made me chuckle, hope I am like that at 71...

I really like the subtle layering effect in your last works, gives them a wonderful soft feel..

have a good weekend.

i love the figures. without too much detail it is very clear that they are older. i agree with the other comments that your work tells a story. And I love imagining a story...

Now a totally unrelated topic. How did you get the wallpaper off ? Ours seems to be glued directly to the sheetrock. It is taking FOREVER. If you have any tips I'd sure love them.

and... i would love if you posted your favorite veggie recipe on your blog. Thanks for the support, I ate lettuce today!

I really like this painting! Subtle yet bold. Tells a story....
The colors are great as well as the subjects. Your story on the article even brings it more meaning. Very nice.
