food.truck.love.

I wasn't planning on being here until the week of endings had ended but I came across something very special. Very share worthy. Evanston's first food truck. I had spotted it once last summer right after it started rolling around town but it was at the beach catering an event and so I kept my distance. But today, just as I discovered my parents were arriving two hours later that I expected (due to a miscommunication..ahem) I was out running a last minute graduation errand when I passed the Hummingbird Food Truck. I did what any super-hungry-can't-wait-another-two-hours-type-hungry girl would do and pulled into the next spot I found and got myself a little something to hold me over (fries are not really a hold me over type snack but the only other two items on the menu were sandwiches and i really wanted to support the truck while saving room for what will have to be a very small lunch with my p's). The fries were cooked to crispy on the outside-light and fluffy on the inside perfection and the were tossed with shaved garlic cloves and chili flakes (they were addictively spicy and possibly the best fries i have ever eaten). I'm so excited about this trend which brings amazing and diverse food to the street for a reasonable price thanks to the low overhead. I mean walking down the street and coming across a tuna nicoise sandwich on a fresh cibatta roll with roasted veggies and black garlic aioli....pure yum . Do you have food trucks near you? What's your fave?

If any of you are heading to Portland, OR, check out the amazing food carts/trucks there! They are on every corner. Here is one blog (A Guide to Food Carts in Portland Oregon): http://www.foodcartsportland.com/ I'm lucky enough to live just under three hours away in Seattle. I'd love to plan a food cart weekend getaway someday...

Yum those sound satisfying. We have a few food trucks downtown but I've never tried them!

Funny PAHD mentioned Portland because when I think of food trucks I think of fabulous middle eastern one there. Several were parked on campus at PSU... they had heavenly stuff. Perfect break time during those studio art days. Yum!

I wish we had one!! Wow these fries sound delicious....And it's such a genius idea, what you said is so right, low overhead together with some great food fantasies and vroooeeeemmm GO!!!

ps i somehow forgot you were/are a clay master..I wish i could afford me a kiln. But on the other hand it's better not to own one, because i probably would not survive the electric bill :)))
